Young people are actually less likely than adults to get addicted to screens and typically won't have as much responsibilities related to finance, looking after others etc, so them getting addicted is less of a concern than a spouse. At any rate setting arbitrary limits is ridiculous and even harmful, no one has that right. I'd only be concerned if signs of addiction were showing and if they did, it wouldn't be the addiction I'd be worried most about, it'd be the cause behind it, is it a sign their real lives weren't rewarding/interesting enough? is there something they want to escape from and they find solace in these devices? even if someone was addicted, that stuff would be the concern not the devices themselves.

"I need to model being a whole human in front of them." We could have entire weekend-long, multi-year conversations about just this part. So glad you named it here!

I loved this talk. It was so clear and logical. The way I see it, I think the hierarchical structure is at fault. We need a hub-and-spoke structure not hierarchy. The money system is the problem because it causes all sorts of mind contortions. Thank you for speaking these ideas. I wish the discussion with others was also recorded.

My 8 year old was so desperately unhappy at school she used to cry for about half an hour a day, couldn’t sleep and had to be held back in the line by her teacher. Since lock down she’s totally cured of all of this, we have experimented with child led ‘unschooling’ and it’s worked wonders she’s so motivated and happy. I’ve pulled her out of school officially and will continue with the unschooling alongside my work from home. I’m reading you book ‘free to learn’ at the moment!

I thank you for your efforts Dr Gray. I am a public school teacher. I resigned in Feb before the pandemic. I have been a science teacher for grades 6-12 for 17 yrs. I cannot retire. I need to work. But I do not need to do THIS. I refuse to be a participant in this torture. I do not know how it will work, but I working toward starting a small outdoor school (7 per instructor-which is I) on our cow calf ranch in E. OR. I will be a private school so that I remain removed from government meddling. You have inspired me in this, Sir. Thank you.

I like the last bit giving the 15K back to parents ... I think we need to think how universal basic income could play in with equalizing education that way and help families who wants to pursue SDE!!!

Im 23" before my 18 birthday ive always peak an interest into the arts like acting, drawing and painting and also language learning and legal studies And politics. but i couldnt is cause the compulsory school system and my ASD diagnosis were holding me back from learning those subject. if i had learn those subject before i had turn 18, ive would been well specialize on those. Ive been comming to community college for the past 5 years, and i love it here. i have more access to those course's And subject that i later can use in my profession. Looking back to those time's of attending school wer. Miserable, ive had been bullied verbally attack by people who i couldnt click and relate too and had worsen my mental being.
